How to Bid on Yahoo Auction Japan
Yahoo! Auctions is the largest auction platform in Japan, and most of what sells there never reaches international buyers. Sellers rarely ship abroad, the interface is Japanese-only, and payment is domestic. The listings are open to anyone — placing a bid is not.
That is the part we solve. Talk to us first and we set you up with a bidding ID, then you browse and bid on Yahoo Auctions yourself. The step-by-step tutorial further down this page shows you exactly how.
Two ways to buy
Bid it yourself
Get in touch and we will arrange a bidding ID for you. You search, watch and bid on Yahoo Auctions directly — full control over timing and how high you go. Follow the tutorial below and you will be bidding in minutes.
Let us bid for you
Prefer not to deal with a Japanese interface, or the auction closes while you are asleep? Send us the link and your maximum bid, and we place it on your behalf. Same fee either way.
Before you start
Bidding IDs are arranged case by case, after a short conversation. It takes one message:
- Contact us by email or WhatsApp and tell us what you are looking for.
- We arrange your bidding ID and explain how payment works for your first purchase.
- You start bidding, using the walkthrough below as your guide.
There is no charge for getting set up. Our fee applies only when you win something.

You won. What happens next?
Winning is the easy part. Everything after it is ours to handle.
- We pay the seller. Payment goes out immediately. Japanese sellers expect fast settlement and rate buyers accordingly.
- The item ships to our warehouse. The seller sends it domestically within Japan — no customs forms, no international shipping for them to refuse.
- We check and photograph it. If the item is visibly different from the listing, you hear about it before it goes any further.
- We quote your international shipping. Choose your method, or ask us to hold the item and combine it with other wins.
- It ships to your address. You pay import duty and tax on arrival in your own country.
Auction closing at 3am your time?
Send us the link and your maximum bid, and we will place it for you. The fee is the same whether you bid yourself or we do it for you — use whichever suits the auction.
What it costs
Our service fee is 8% of the item price for non-members. Members pay a reduced rate — see membership benefits for details.
The full cost of any won auction is made up of:
- The winning bid
- Our 8% service fee
- Domestic shipping within Japan (seller to our warehouse)
- International shipping to your country
- Import duty and tax, paid on arrival in your country
Use our cost calculator for an estimate before you bid.
Losing an auction costs you nothing
Auctions are competitive and you will not win every one. If someone outbids you, there is no fee and no obligation. Go straight to the next listing.
What you can bid on
Anything legal that appears on Yahoo Auctions Japan. In practice, most of what our customers buy falls into a few categories:
Cameras and lenses
Japan's used camera market is deep, well-priced and honestly graded.
Watches
Vintage Seiko through to modern pieces, often well below international dealer prices.
Anime figures and models
Including limited runs and event exclusives never sold outside Japan.
Musical instruments
Guitars and effects pedals in particular.
Car and motorcycle parts
JDM parts that are difficult or expensive to source elsewhere.
Fashion and vintage clothing
Japanese archive pieces and secondhand designer items.
The same applies to eBay and other auction platforms. Ask us.
What we cannot ship
Some items cannot leave Japan, and others cannot enter your country. This generally covers weapons and ammunition, live animals and plants, flammable and pressurised goods, counterfeit products, and anything restricted by customs at either end.
Rules differ by destination. If you are unsure, ask before you bid — it takes us a minute to check, and it saves you from winning something that cannot be shipped.
Combine wins and save on shipping
International shipping is priced by weight and volume, so five separate parcels cost considerably more than one.
We hold items at our warehouse free of charge for a reasonable period. Win several auctions over a few weeks and we repack everything into a single shipment. For regular bidders this is usually the largest saving available.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need my own Yahoo Japan account?
No. We arrange a bidding ID for you after a short conversation. Message us and we will explain how it works for your situation.
Is there a charge to get set up?
No. Our 8% fee applies only when you win an item.
Can I still ask you to bid instead?
Yes, any time. Send the link and your maximum bid. Many customers bid themselves during the day and hand over auctions that close overnight.
What if the item is not as described?
We photograph parcels on arrival. If there is an obvious discrepancy we contact you before shipping and help raise it with the seller. Japanese auction sellers generally have strong feedback incentives, but secondhand goods carry risk and we would rather tell you early than after the item is in transit.
How long does shipping take?
It depends on the method and destination. Express services typically take under a week; economy sea freight can take several weeks. We give you an estimate when you choose.
Who pays import duty?
You do, on arrival in your country. The amount depends on your country's rules and the declared value.
